Guidelines

Students must earn 1/2 credit in Physical Education each year in grades 9-12, for a total of 2 units of credit, in order to be eligible to receive a diploma.

The Physical Education program has at its foundation a common core of sequential learning experiences and is geared to the developmental needs of each student. As a focal point, all activities are designed to enrich the physical fitness of the students by providing knowledge and active learning to enhance each students' overall wellness. Building upon the foundation of team and individual sports, our program focuses on developing skills in a wide range of recreational pursuits. Students have choice of electives throughout each quarter and are expected to participate to the best of their abilities.

If a student has a physical disability which prevents taking part in a regular gym activity program either on a temporary or permanent basis, that student will enroll in the Physical Education Adaptive Program as scheduling permits. In addition, if there is a temporary medical condition that precludes a student from taking part in gym, he/she will be required to do a written assignment/project in order to earn the appropriate credit. These assignments can be downloaded from the website or can be given to the student by his/her Physical Education teacher.

In keeping with Federal regulations, girls and boys share all appropriate activities.
